Laszlo Moholy-Nagy
Nagy was originally a Bauhaus tutor before he moved the chicago institute of design after the school was closed down. He also lived in London between 1934-1937. He is best known for his experimental approach to photography and the photogram, using de-familiarisation and taking inspiration from construcitivism. Robert Brownjohn was taught my nagy.
Herbert Spencer
Can be seen as a representative of British modernism. He was a designer of the Penrose annual (1935) and a type consultant from 1950's onwards. Introduced the use of a lot of colour photography. Spencer was also the founder and editor of Typographica - a journal based on typography and the visual arts. (1949- 67).
Modernism in Britain was used to create a better future - this was shown in the Festival of Britain held in Crystal Palace in 1951.
